David Parkes Biography
DAVID was born in Dublin, Ireland. Born into a musical family, his father Frank was a well known trumpet player and successful band leader but at the age of 17 David chose to become a professional soccer player.
In 1977 David won a prestigious National Talent Contest and began singing on a part time basis. However, in the same year David was struck down with Crohn’s Disease, an illness which necessitated his early retirement from soccer.
The illness continued for 14 years and in that period of time he had ten major operations. His final surgery was on the 7th January 1989 and David was told that he had weeks to live. At a benefit concert, held to aid David’s family’s finances, David and his wife Anne were given free tickets to Medjugorje in Bosnia, in the former Yugoslavia. A healing priest from Chicago, Fr. Peter Mary Rookey, accompanied them on their trip.
While there, during a healing service conducted by Fr. Peter, David was miraculously healed of his illness. David who had been away from his faith for eight years, also had a miraculous spiritual healing.
